Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age: Candidates must be 40 years or younger on December 31st of the conference year.
  • ACBI Membership: ACBI members and non-members can apply (sessional membership required for non-members).
  • Presentation: Candidates must have a poster or abstract accepted for the conference.
  • Original Work: Presentations should be evaluated as original by the Scientific Committee.

This award recognizes outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of clinical biochemistry, inspiring future generations and celebrating excellence in the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

You can apply for the endowment award by sending an email to acbicon2023kerala@gmail.com addressing the organizing secretary of ACBICON 2023 Kerala , with (1) Proof of registration, (2) Proof of membership of ACBI, (3) Proof of age, (4)full text of abstract.

“ACBI YOUNG SCIENTIST BURSARY”

Applications are invited from Young scientists, who are members of ACBI, for the award of the ACBI Young Scientist Bursary for attending the ACBI National conference.

The criteria for bursary selection are as follows:

  • 1. Age of the candidate should be 35 or less than 35 years on 31 st . December of the year of the conference.
  • 2. Candidate should be a member of ACBI or if not a member then he/she shall have to take Sessional membership for the conference.
  • 3. Having a Poster / Abstract accepted.
  • 4. Work to be presented at conference should be original as evaluated by the Scientific committee.
  • 5. The candidate should give an undertaking that he/she did not receive any grant from any other government or private sources.
  • 6. The candidate should submit application through proper

Two candidates will be selected for award of FULL BURSARY and Two candidates will be selected for PARTIAL BURSARY. One bursary will be given to candidate contesting for any oral Award presentation, and the Second bursary will be given to candidate presenting Poster.

FULL BURSARY : Rupees Ten Thousand each.

Each PARTIAL BURSARY : Rupees Seven Thousand each.

Bursary recipient will be selected by the Bursary Award Committee on the basis of information provided through the “Bursary Application Form” submitted within the deadline provided in the Final Brochure of the conference & also on the ACBI Website.

The application along with all documents should be sent to the Organizing Secretary of the Conference before the last date for call for abstract as published in the Final brochure or the conference website.

Candidates applying would have to submit the following : (1) Proof of registration, (2) Proof of membership of ACBI, (3) Proof of age, and (4) copies of their Oral /Poster presentation to the committee for evaluation, (5) a letter stating that they have not received any grant for attending the conference. All applications have to be forwarded by their Head of departments /Institution. The Awardees name will be announced during the valedictory function of the conference.

Application for ACBI YOUNG SCIENTIST BURSARY AWARD

A.C.B.I. Travel Fellowship

Applications are invited from Young members of the Association by the Organizing Secretary of the Annual conference for availing this fellowship. This award shall be awarded to Young Members of ACBI below the age of 35 whose paper has been accepted for presentation and who has not availed any other assistance through any other source. Total number of Travel Fellowship award will be Five (5). The Application for Travel Fellowship should be addressed to the General Secretary, ACBI and submitted to the ACBI Secretariat address [ Dr. Rajiv R. Sinha, General Secretary, Biochem-Lab, Budha Colony Main Road, East Boring Canal Road, Patna – 800 001.] He/She should enclose proof of membership of ACBI, proof of Age, Proof of conference registration and certificate from the Head of the department of non-receipt of any other financial support. The award will be decided by a committee consisting of the Organising Secretary, President and General Secretary of ACBI. The awardees will be given an award of Rupees Five Thousand each. Preference will be given to those who has to travel from far of places. The awardees name will be announced during the valedictory function of the conference and the cheque will be presented.

The Travel Fellowship has been constituted by a donation of Rs. Twenty five Thousand by Dr. A. S. Kanagsabapathy, Organising Secretary, ACBI conference, Vellore ; Rs. Twenty Five thousand by Dr. Vijay Singh Thakur, Organising Secretary of Workshop in Quality Control held at AIIMS, New Delhi, Donation of Rs. Fifty Two Thousand by Mr. S. K. Manhar, Director, Priman Instruments Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi & from the ACBI Corpus Fund .

ORAL PRESENTATION OF AWARD PAPERS

The Organizing Secretary shall be inviting papers for the below mentioned Awards from members of the Association including sessional members through the final announcement of the conference and the papers should reach the Organizing Secretary of the conference by the date fixed for receiving papers for the conference. These papers shall be evaluated by Scientific Committee of the conference. On the basis of evaluation done by members of the scientific committee, the organizing secretary shall select 2 best papers of each award and inform their authors to present them at a special session for award papers before 3 judges selected by the President from amongst senior delegates for this purpose. Each presentation shall not be of more than 8 minutes duration. After presentation of each paper, 2 minutes shall be devoted on discussion by the judges and the audience. The best paper author of each Award as decided by the judges shall be given certificate and money at the valedictory function. You can make yourself ready to submit your paper in time indicating the name of the award for which the paper is being submitted. Any member including Sessional Member, whose age on 31 st December of the Year is below 35 years, is eligible to take part in the contest.

[1] PITABUS-JAMUNA BURMA MEMORIAL AWARD

Dr. D. P. Burma, Professor of Biochemistry, Institute of Medical Sciences, Benaras Hindu University instituted this award in memory of his father and mother by donating a sum of Rs.5000/ in 1982 . As per the resolution of the General Body passed in December 2011, Gwalior, this was further supplemented by a donation of Rs. 50,000 from the ACBI Corpus fund. The applicants have to submit a write up (not more than 2000 words) on an original research work in medicine based on approaches in biochemistry or molecular biology, published by any other author/authors, excluding himself and his group, in any prestigious journal of the world in the preceding one year. [It must not be your work]. Application along with (1) 4 typed/photo copies of the write up, (2) 4 photocopies of the original paper, (3) documentary evidence of age and (4) proof of membership of ACBI should be submitted to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

The winner of the award shall be given a cash award and a certificate at the Valedictory function of the same conference.

[2] SITA DEVI AWARD

This award was created by a donation of Rs.5000/ by the Organising Secretary of 6th. Annual Conference of ACBI, Dr. C. Sita Devi, in 1980 and later again Rs.5000/ from her own side. As per the resolution of the General Body passed in December 2011, Gwalior, this was further supplemented by a donation of Rs. 50,000 from the ACBI Corpus fund. The cash award and a certificate are given to the person whose paper in oral presentation was considered best and worth. The applicant shall submit (1) 4 typed/ photo copies of the paper, (2) documentary evidence of age (3) proof of membership of ACBI (4) no objection certificate from co-authors, if any, to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

[3] P. S. MURTHY - UCMS AWARD FOR BEST PAPER IN THE FIELD OF :

(1) INFECTIOUS DISEASES,

(2) DEVELOPMENT OF DRUGS FROM PLANT SOURCES

(3) DIABETES and

(4) CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES.

These awards were created by a donation of Rs.10,000/ by Prof. P. S. Murthy in 1993. And subsequently as per the resolution of the General Body passed in December 2011, Gwalior, this was supplemented by a donation of Rs. 50,000 from the ACBI Corpus fund. This was further supplemented by a donation of Rs. 49,000 from the saving of the XX Annual conference held at Delhi. Papers for the award are invited under 4 categories, i.e. (1) Infectious Diseases, and (2) Development of Drugs (3) Diabetes and (4) Cardiovascular Diseases.. One best paper in each category is awarded with certificate and cash. If no paper under one category is available or considered worth, then both awards shall go to two top papers of the other category. In case no paper in either category is considered worth, then similar papers in Poster Sessions should be considered for the award. The award shall be presented to winners during the Valedictory Function of the conference.

The applicant shall submit (1) 4 typed/ photo copies of the paper, (2) documentary evidence of age (3) no objection certificate from co-authors, if any and (4) evidence of membership of ACBI, to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

[4] MGIMS AWARD FOR BEST PAPER IN THE FIELD OF TROPICAL DISEASES

This award was created in the year 1994 by a donation of Rs.10,000/ by Dr. B. C. Harinath, the Organising Secretary of 20 th . ACBI conference, Sevagram,. As per the resolution of the General Body passed in December 2011, Gwalior, this was further supplemented by a donation of Rs. 50,000 from the ACBI Corpus fund.

The Award is open for original work in biochemical/ immunological/ molecular aspects of Tropical Diseases. The applicant shall submit (1) 4 typed/ photo copies of the paper, (2) documentary evidence of age (3) no objection certificate from co-authors and (4) evidence of membership of ACBI, to the Organizing Secretary before the dead line.

In case no paper is considered worth, then similar papers in Poster Sessions should be considered for the award. The award shall be presented to winners during the Valedictory Function of the conference.

POSTER AWARDS

A number of awards will be granted to the best posters presented at the conference. All young scientists aged 35 year or less (on 31 st . December of that year) submitting a poster at the ACBI National conference will be considered for the Poster Award Competition. No applications are required to be submitted.

[1] NIMS AWARD FOR BEST POSTER.

The award was instituted in 1994 by a donation of Rs. 10,000/ by the Organizing Secretary of XIX Annual Conference of ACBI, Dr. T. Malati, Professor and Head of the Dept. of Biochemistry, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad. As per the resolution of the General Body passed in December 2011, Gwalior, this was further supplemented by a donation of Rs. 50,000 from the ACBI Corpus fund.

There are 2 awards - One award is for the best poster in the field of Cancer and another in Non-Cancer field. There is no application required to win this award. All posters shall be evaluated by a panel of judges drawn from the delegates, who have been selected by the President in consultation with the Organising secretary. The award shall be presented during the Valedictory function of the conference.

[2] Dr. P. Usha Sarma Best Poster Award in Genomic Proteonomic sciences – Clinical Application

The award was instituted in 2013 by a donation of Rs. 50,000/ by Dr. P. Usha Sarma, Retired Professor and Head of the Dept. of Biochemistry, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Genomic Research, New Delhi. There will be one award to the Best poster in the field of Genomic Proteonomic Sciences – Clinical application during the ACBI Annual Conference.

[3] Dr. Jayshree Bhattacharya Best Poster Award in the field of Cardiac & Metabolic Diseases

The award was instituted in 2022 by a donation of Rs. 1,00,000/ by Dr. Jayshree Bhattacharya, Professor , Dept. of Biochemistry, Lady Harding Medical College, New Delhi. There are 2 awards . One award to the Best poster in the field of Cardiac diseases and another in the field of Metabolic Diseases during the ACBI Annual Conference.

[4] POSTER AWARDS FROM ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

Organizing Committee shall also announce 5 or more awards for excellent posters and the process of selection will be the same by the same judges of the NIMS Award. There is no application required to win this award.

Thus Poster awards fall in following categories:-

(1) Cancer – 1

(2) Non-cancer – 1

(3) Genomic Proteonomic Sciences – Clinical Application

(4) In case no award is given for Oral presentation of

(a) P. S. Murthy Award for (i) Infectious diseases

(ii) Development of drugs from plant sources, And (b) MGIMS Award for papers on Tropical diseases. Posters on these topics will by considered for those awards

(5) Organizing committee award for visually excellent Posters.
